Black and White Portraits From Cambodia

Every day, I post a new, original black and white portrait from Cambodia as My Photograph of the Day. Today’s selection is a collaborative black and white portrait from the series The Cambodians titled Bank Employee.

Each piece is a unique creation reflecting my ongoing quest for artistic expression.

Cambodian Bank Employee Portrait — Professional Pride

This warm and professionally compelling Cambodian bank employee portrait immediately establishes its subject as someone who takes genuine pride in her work. The lanyard, ID badge, black blazer and confident posture speak of institutional identity worn with ease, while the broad natural smile transforms what could have been a formal portrait into something genuinely human and approachable.

The outdoor canopy setting — visible tent structure, bokeh background crowd, work table with phone and documents — places her firmly in a street banking context that is entirely specific to Southeast Asian working life. It is an environment rarely documented in monochrome street portraiture from Cambodia, making this image a quietly valuable addition to the series.

A Portrait of Khmer Professional Life

The raised arm leaning against the tent pole introduces welcome dynamism and prevents the composition from feeling static. The ID badge detail rewards close inspection — a small but humanising touch that connects the viewer to the subject’s specific working identity.

Technically the image is well-handled. The background bokeh is clean and unobtrusive, the face well-exposed with good skin detail, and the black blazer rendered with sufficient tonal depth. The table edge and right-side tent pole are slightly distracting but unavoidable given the environment.

Emotionally this is a portrait of quiet professional dignity — a Cambodian bank employee portrait that celebrates working life with warmth and respect.
