Introduction

The Cambodians Portrait Series

The Cambodians portrait series is an ongoing black and white documentary style portrait portfolio by Todd Black at Light and More, exploring the faces, stories and working lives of the Khmer people through intimate monochrome portraiture.

From landmine deminers and Buddhist monks to market vendors, café workers and Khmer New Year celebrants, each portrait in The Cambodians series seeks to honour the dignity, joy and complexity of everyday Cambodian life. These are not tourist photographs — they are documents of real encounters, real people and real moments, captured with honesty and deep respect for their subjects.

Shot entirely in black and white, the series uses the absence of colour to strip away distraction and focus attention on what matters most — the humanity behind each face.

The Cambodians is an evolving body of work. New portraits are added regularly.
